Situated in North Male Atoll just 20 minutes from the Airport, Thulagiri has excellent natural assets, like its sister resort Angaga....a reef edge reasonably close to the beach for a god part of the island, a large sandy lagoon ideal for windsurfing, canoeing and swimming and lush tropical vegetation offering good shade.
The resort has a relatively high density of beach bungalows for an island of this size but any overcrowding is not apparent. There are 55 beach bungalows (7 Standard and 48 Deluxe) all furnished with bamboo furniture and decorated with screwpine woven panels. By todays standards the look and feel are rather dated but perfectly adequate if you prefer not to waste money on un-necessary luxuries. All are air-conditioned and reasonably spacious. Approximately half of the rooms are built in clusters of 3 connected bungalows.
The 16 water bungalows are in a semi-circle at the southern end of the island where the beach is non existent. They also come furnished with bamboo furniture although the bed is a 4-poster. French windows with curtains run around 3 sides of each bungalow. The verandah on each bungalow runs along 2 sides with a set of stairs to the lagoon. A unique feature of the water bungalows is the glass panel in the table top giving you views of fishlife in the lagoon below.
The island enjoys an excellent level of vegetation with a plentiful supply of palm trees and birdlife. The little feeding area near the Gym is normally packed with pigeons and budgerigars. In the centre of the resort are 2 wonderful ponds filled with water lillies.
All things considered this is a fabulous little resort with great attributes, nice facilities, good food, excellent service and All-Inclusive if you want it. The main bar, with its high thatched roof and sandy floor, has comfy chairs and is a great place to relax and meet friends amongst the fairly broad mix of nationalities that have discovered Thulagiri.
Very good value for money and highly recommended.
