Olhuveli is situated in South Male Atoll, about a 50 minute speedboat ride from the Airport. Before the tsunami the resort was modestly priced and a fairly basic affair. A multi-million dollar investment has transformed it into one of the best resort's of its kind if you are looking for somewhere with a good array of restaurants, facilities and accommodation.
The Deluxe Rooms are superbly appointed and you should not be put off by the fact they are in blocks of 4 (2 up, 2 down). The 8 Beach Cottages are superb and tucked away on a nice stretch of beach on the sunrise side of the island overlooking the Deluxe Water Villas. Of the water Villas available the Deluxe Water Villas are the best value for money. The jacuzzi in the so-called Jacuzzi Water Villas is no more than a bubble bath and a misrepresentation of the brand. The Honeymoon Water Villas do have a real 'Jacuzzi' on their deck.
The resort has two pools. One located at the Recreation Centre which is ideal for families and the other is an Infinity Pool near the Dhoni Bar which overlooks the watersports lagoon. Within the Recreation Centre there are plenty of things to do including tennis and table tennis.
If you want to pamper yourself the Sun Spa opposite Reception has a wide selection of massages, facials, body scrubs, ayurvedic treatments which can be chosen individually or combined in a Spa Package.
Olhuveli has perhaps the best equipped and run watersports centre we have seen. Everything is brand new, well maintained and the German owner runs the operation the way it should be done. One of the few places to offer Kite Surfing....a sport that is perfect for the big wide open spaces available on the west side.
We like the look and feel of the new Olhuveli. Although it had a few teething problems at the beginning it seems to have bedded down and is recommended if you want a mid-size resort with under 150 rooms with All-Inclusive.
