Velavaru was taken over by Banyan Tree after the tsunami. A refurbishment has produced a fantstic little hideaway, being one of only two resorts in this atoll, with all the quality you would expect from the Banyan Tree brand.
On the main island of Velavaru there are 79 traditional but classy beachfront villas nestled underneath the lush canopy of tropical trees. Across the other side of the lagoon are the new InOcean Villas launched in July 2009....a cluster of 34 luxurious standalone water villas right on the edge of the house reef.
In the past lack of decent snorkelling without having to jump on a snorkelling excursion was always a weakness of Velavaru. For those clients staying in the InOcean Villas a superb drop-off with great snorkelling runs all the way along the sunset side within easy reach of the villas.
Banyan Tree have a fantastic promtion on these villas in the May-October period. Please call for more details.
For all round quality and sophistication it is a gem. Yes still a bit on the pricey side but far more sensibly priced than many other top-end resorts in the Maldives these days. I love this place !
