Veligandu actually means 'sandbank' and at this resort you get plenty of beach for your money. The island features a most unique, long sandspit that extends into the lagoon at the south end of the island.
Following a massive refurbishment in 2007 the new swimming pool, bar, restaurants and reception are all decorated using natural materials of thatch, wood, coral and with a sand floor. Entertainment in the evening is plentiful and well organised.
The island has a young vibrant management team and the staff have remained there since the resort opened 14 years ago, a reason why people return year after year. The food in the Dhonveli is probably the best buffet food you will find in the Maldives.
If you are looking for a medium size All-Inclusive resort with top quality detached accommodation and great facilities, then Veligandu is for you. However as with all resorts that have undergone extensive refurbishment this is reflected in the prices which are at the top end of the range in this category of resort. Two weeks here on AI with scheduled flights will not give you much change out of £4000 per person....but for many it is worth every penny.
